At-home photography sessions are special for more reasons than one. First, families are extremely comfortable in their home and their true selves are easier to capture on camera. Also, it allows me to shoot documentary-style and capture often overlooked moments from a family’s daily routine. Think moments like helping their little ones put on boots, hats, or sitting in their favorite nook together.
These documentary-style photos are images that your child can look back on and instantly be transported back to that magical time in their childhood. They remember the little train they used to play with and cuddling next to their childhood pup! While I do shoot posed photos as well, I also take several moments to just observe and document during these sessions.
Ella and her charming family are expecting a new family member this year, so we treated this shoot as a family and a maternity session. We even included the family pup (half Husky/half German Shepard) in the mix!
I just adored this cute sign that Ella had in her upstairs nook. With two-year olds, documentary-style photography suits their sporadic mood swings, and we were able to capture all the moods of this little one!
Soon enough, it was off to explore the snowy wonderland outside. Some of my absolute favorite moments of this shoot were the parents helping their child bundle up for the snow. We made sure to capture some mommy & me portraits before heading out as well.
The sunlight was hitting the freshly-fallen snow, and I loved the dreamy effect it was giving off. We shared some laughs as dad and son played around in the snow. However, the biggest laughs of the session were when the family dog escaped the fence and took off running! Of course, this is extremely entertaining to a two-year old!
If you’d like to capture your family’s routine and book an at-home session, send me a message! These are low-key photoshoots that last around 1-1.5 hours.
