Every month, I flex my creative muscles and plan a fashion editorial for my own personal interests. Lately, I am inspired by beauty editorials with an emphasis on minimal, fashion-forward make-up. My process involves keeping track of images that inspire me and building out my own ideas from that inspired state. Next, I create separate mood boards for tone, styling, and posing. The helpfulness of solid pre-production cannot be stressed enough!
Alyssa and Mei-lin both expressed interest in modeling for this particular pastel beauty editorial, and we began discussing the concept in detail. Alyssa and Mei-lin are both signed with Heyman Talent out of Cincinnati, Ohio.
I was thrilled to have Jon Gregory on set for his stunning, elegant, and clean make-up work. His ability to achieve the fresh-faced look is unmatched. I leaned on his expertise to match specific pastels with each models’ skin undertones. I love working with a team where everyone can bounce creative ideas off of each other. The results always turn out amazing!
Earrings are model-owned, while the butterfly necklace is an actual relic from the early 2000s.
In adddition, I worked with local Indianapolis artist, Stuart Ball, to make props for the models. We planned the first half of the beauty editorial to emit a “Y2K/pastel” vibe, the second half explored darker territory using metals with black and white photography. Stuart and I used bits of reflective metal from a door handle and an invitation holder to make this gladiator-type headpiece.
Alyssa posed with a cut-off reflective metal scrap. She nailed these edgier poses! The tousled hair and winged eye-shadow completed this futuristic beauty look.
I want to thank the team for making my creative vision come to life. If you are a model looking to enhance or refresh your portfolio, don’t hesitate to send me a message!
