I met Kristen and Tom during a brief stint doing Crossfit. While the fitness class didn’t last for me, our friendship was just beginning! I was thrilled when Kristen reached out to me a couple weeks before her due date to schedule a newborn shoot for their baby boy.
Baby boy looked just darling in his matching night cap and onesie. Dad and I laughed at his furrowed brow during these initial shots.
The secret to having a successful newborn session is to schedule enough time for your little one to be comfortable. I advise at least 1.5 hours to make time for feeding, changing, and cooing the baby. Be sure to bring bottles, extra diapers, and pacifiers to have the session go as smoothly as possible. It’s also helpful to have fed the newborn about 20 minutes before the start of the session.
I brought along the ever-versatile grey letter board to celebrate baby’s arrival. He came into the world a healthy boy at 8 lbs 11 oz! Feel free to bring along any other props or festive clothing to your own session. It’s best to schedule a newborn shoot during the first two weeks of the baby’s life.
Next, we snapped some shots nearby the window light and even caught a smile mid-nap! Can you tell he was swaddled with love for this image?
We captured these images at Kristen and Tom’s lounge area in their apartment complex. I love the ski lodge vibe of the area, and we were able to get some precious moments of the new family all together.
Lastly, I love giving attention to the small details during a newborn shoot like their tiny hands, feet, and funny facial expressions that babies so often make! It is wonderful to have tokens such as these to remember your newborn at their smallest.
Ask me about combining packages to capture your newborn at their littlest, 6 months, and 1 year milestones!
